Retirement Notecard by Albert Bierstdadt - Sunset in Yosemite

Albert Bierstadt was born in Dusseldorf, Germany and lived in New York City. He was a painter of The Rocky Mountain School and won the Legion of Honor in 1867. In the 1870's Bierstadt was considered America's greatest landscape painter, but his style faded in popularity and he died out of favor with the public. He was an early "plein air" painter, traveling the outdoors in areas such as the Sierras, Wyoming and Utah. Today he is considered once again the master of this grandiose and beautiful art style. This beautiful painting is a scene in Yosemite National Park, California that captures the drama of that area at the end of the day.
